Tailored & Safe Approach

Yoga Therapy uses the tools of yoga to promote healing. Consideration of an individual's unique needs and capabilities in the design of a yoga practice is what separates yoga therapy from other yoga approaches. The breath is also specifically emphasized at every level of a practice, which facilitates the experience of something profound from seemingly simple techniques.

Whilst yoga classes tend to focus on attaining, maintaining or improving a state of wellness and/or proficiency in specific postures and breathing techniques, yoga therapy uses the principles and practices of yoga to address imbalances in the system that are affecting a persons life.

Yoga therapy has long been an esteemed medical discipline in India, and today in the West is increasingly recognized

as a safe and effective modality within complementary medicine.

Targets the Gross & Subtle

Yoga Therapy is one means to:

- access more clarity and calm with which to approach daily life

- gain and increase self-awareness

- stabilize emotional fluctuations

- soothe aches and pains

- address chronic pain

- reduce cravings

- improve sleep

More broadly, it can help you discover and access deeper sources of intelligence and meaning,

leading to a more purposeful and fulfilling experience of life.

Personal Consultations & Practices

It works through the one-to-one relationship between a teacher and student, where the teacher acts as a guide,

enabling the transmission of wisdom and healing accessible through the use of yoga's tools and techniques.

It would be my privilege to be your guide to yoga therapy.

"I started yoga therapy with Allison because I was going through an extremely challenging time in my life. We have been doing one-on-one sessions for several months nowand I cannot recommend Allison enough. She is so professional, so knowledgeable, so empathetic and understanding. I feel very comfortable with her and her calm demeanour and her immense know-how have really helped me work through the high levels of stress and anxiety I have been experiencing. Moreover, she gives great advice and suggests exercises one can do in their own time in order to incorporate yoga therapy into everyday life."

"Allison was fantastic to work with. I had ongoing lower back pain—stiffness, dull aches, and occasional sharp twinges that left me struggling to move. She really listened, assessed things thoroughly, and put together a short, manageable routine I could actually stick to every morning. It cleverly started in bed, moved to sitting, then standing—setting me up for the day. Over time, she adapted it to help build strength and support long-term improvement. The results have been noticeable, and I’m really grateful for her help."

Frequently Asked questions

What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy applies the principles and practices of yoga to promote healing.

It uses a holistic and person-centered approach, tailoring yoga practices to an individual's needs, goals and capabilities.

Practices incorporate a combination of movement, breathing, meditation, visualization and vocalization tools to target and address systemic imbalances that present physically, mentally and emotionally.

How does it work?

As a yoga therapist, I would work with you individually to create a customized yoga practice that considers your unique wishes, needs and capabilities. We would meet on a regular basis, at a time and place that is comfortable to you, to develop our relationship and your practice over time.

In our first session, we would review your medical history, do some physical movements to check your abilities and limitations, and discuss any presenting problems. I would then design a therapy plan specifically for you to follow on a daily basis. We would then meet regularly to review your progress and adjust your therapy plan based on what is working and not working for you.

Does It Work?

Yoga therapy is not a quick fix, though some of its benefits can be felt in just one session. It is most effective when used over time, and has been shown to be a safe and effective tool for treating a number of physical and mental health conditions.

A growing volume of studies evidences yoga's benefit to several aspects of general wellness, including aiding in stress management, mental/emotional health, physical balance and sleep, as well as promoting the uptake of other healthy activities and habits.

As more and more research is conducted, the list of yoga's benefits is only getting longer, and its continues to prove low risk given adequate instruction.

How much does it cost?

Sessions are £90 for a 50-minute session (in-person in Sydenham or online). The first session is typically longer (1 hour 20 minutes), and the charge is £120.

We would typically start with 3-6 contracted sessions and take it from there. I offer a number of packages and will work with you to find an arrangement that fits us both.

Do I need to have yoga experience, be flexible, strong etc.?

The only requirement for yoga therapy is the breath. It can benefit everyone, even if you have no immediate health concern, and no previous experience or knowledge of yoga is needed.

Yoga therapy works in the opposite direction to most yoga classes: there is no ideal form or technique to work towards - postures and techniques are adapted to you, and are used based on what accessible to you, physically and mentally.
